Soapbox

In the paper today I read how one family spent the weekend: in the hospital after being struck by a drunk driver. On their way back from a wedding, the drunk hit their limousine, putting six people in the hospital, killing the driver, and decapitating a seven-year-old girl. Her name was Kate. While she waited for the EMTs and cops to come, the little girl's mother sat by the side of the road cradling the only bit she could find of her baby: Kate's head.

What the hell is wrong with people? Do I drink? Hell, yes. Do I drive when I've been drinking? No. Never.

Every damn car that comes off the assembly line should be equipped with a breathalyzer that won't allow the car to start if it's been disconnected or if you've had even one drink.

Next time you think about getting behind the wheel after you've had a few, think about Kate. And think about Kate's mom.
