How You Stand Outside in the Dark and Learn to Love the Light

Got a call today from a lady who needed help in a bad way, so bad she was actually crying on the phone. This is pretty unusual where I work -- not unheard of, but unusual.

She sounded so close to the end of what she could endure, and all of it over money. I wish I could have told her that money is a mass hallucination, because it is, just pieces of paper with arbitrary numbers that only have value if we assign it. But she broke my heart when she sobbed about losing her integrity, losing her good name, and I couldn't explain this ideal up against her reality.

So I did what I could to be a kind voice in the dark.
