I Really Tried
All week I've been trying to stay away from this one, but I have to say it: where the hell have these people been?
I am referring, of course, to the new polls that state Most Americans Say Bush Not Honest.
NO SHIT!
I repeat, where have you people been??? Did any of the people polled watch the debates in 2000 or 2004? The lip biting, the defensive posturing, the sheer freaking idiocy??? This is the man who criticized the Clinton administration during the 2000 debates for still having troops in Haiti, the man who said America should not be the world's peacekeepers!!!
Americans have the shortest memories on earth. We've got to care more about what our elected officials are doing than how we're going to entertain ourselves for the evening. We've got to care more about the problems we're creating by ignoring what we've done to the environment than we do about having the latest gadget from Apple.
I'll grant you, it's daunting, but pick one thing and stand up for it. Doesn't matter what it is -- AIDS Research, Euthanasia, Save the Whales, Save the Rainforest, Recycling, Alzheimer's Research, Stop Domestic Violence -- ANYTHING, so long as it improves your community. So long as we all stay connected.
Much as I rail against him, Bush is not the enemy. Apathy is.
