Since You're Taking the Blame Anyway...
Dear Mr. Causey --
Since you've agreed to plead guilty to fraud in the Enron case even though you say you didn't do it, why not take the blame for a few other things while you're at it? Like for helping Bush steal Election 2000... or for Paris Hilton's existence... and c'mon, admit it -- you're actually Bin Laden in disguise, right?
What a guy you are! I mean, if it was me, I would never say I defrauded thousands of people unless I ACTUALLY DID IT! That's taking one for the team. Wow!
Mr. Causey, I know the legal fees are huge and you're facing more than 35 counts of fraud with a possible sentence of 30-40 years, so more power to you for cutting a deal. If it was me, I wouldn't be strong enough to give up my good name if I was actually innocent --- hell, I'd probably even go to jail if I couldn't prove it, rather than say I did something I didn't do. But I guess you and I are cut from a different cloth.
Kristen Hays, the AP Business writer states in her article "Ex-Enron Accountant Pleads Guilty to Fraud" that " [Jeffrey] Skilling and [Kenneth]Lay maintain that they neither committed nor knew of any crimes at Enron, and both have pleaded not guilty.
" 'They broke an innocent man,' Daniel Petrocelli, Skilling's lead trial lawyer, said Wednesday, noting the defense teams would have to regroup in light of Causey's defection. 'We have been preparing to go to trial and he [Causey]was poised to be a very key part of the defense. He is one of the most honest, decent men you could ever get to know.' "
Gee, the LAWYERS are saying you're honest and decent. What an endorsement!!!
Well, Mr. Causey, I wish you luck as you endeavor to walk the line between right and wrong. With all of the terrific moralists heading up our great country these days --- yes, Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, Mr. DeLay, Mr. Libby, Mr. Rumsfeld, I mean you --- you ought to make out just fine.
It's the rest of us I'm worried about.
